A NEW BEGINNING!

Church Growth is an important value for any church body, and the best way for a church to grow is through multiplication.  Downtown Mitchell First UMC has done this through the birth of Fusion.  Now we can do it again through the launching of a Hispanic Church that will meet in our Chapel on Sunday afternoons beginning on Sunday, April 24.  Rev. Herman Perez is the pastor of this new faith community, and he has successfully launched Hispanic Churches in Sioux Falls and Plankinton.  We hope to build some connections between our church and this new church in the coming months. Right now, we simply ask for you to pray for this new congregation as they seek to connect people with God.

These are available to all ages, not just high school seniors, and will be paid to the DWU Business Office in January 2023 after we receive confirmation that they successfully completed the fall semester. You can download the application for the scholarship by clicking here. Please either email it to Denise Hoffman at Denise.Hoffman@k12.sd.us or bring it in to the church office.

COUNTY FAIR STAMPS

We are still collecting County Fair stamps. Please place them in the drawer marked “County Fair” at the top of the lower-level stairs.

COBORN’S RECEIPTS

We are collecting Coborn’s receipts for February, March, and April. Please place them in the “Coborn’s” drawer at the top of the lower-level stairs.

CALL TO WORSHIP

L:  Just as God moved over the waters of creation,

P:  God will move with us today.

L:  Just as God drew people to the waters of the Red Sea for deliverance,

L:  As God worked in John the Baptist, Phillip, and the Ethiopian,

P:  We will be blessed by God’s grace and brought to new life.

L:  We open our hearts in worship today with all who have gathered by the water of life,

P:  May we pray with Lydia, sing for those by the rivers of Babylon, and serve with Jesus who offers water to the thirsty.

UMCOR SUNDAY

Today, March 27th, is UMCOR Sunday where we partner with other UMC congregations in a special offering to support the United Methodist Committee on Relief, an organization that acts on our behalf when there is a crisis. We have designated enveolops at both worship center entrances to place your offering. Thank you!

ONE THING-CAMP SCHOLARSHIP DONATIONS

For March’s “One Thing” we are collecting money to help send our children and youth to summer camp. There is a designated collection box in the gathering area where you can put your donations. You can also put it in the offering or give/mail it to the office. All we ask is that you please specify it is for March's "One Thing." We have also just added tents that you can tape to the forest backdrop when you donate. You can write your name and the donation amount on the tent if you would like or just hang a blank one up. For details on each camp and to register, visit dakcamps.org/camps-and-events.

NEW CHURCH DIRECTORY

It is that time again! We are starting the process of putting together a new church directory, although this time it will look a little different. The directory will be online and will be available to access by anyone in our church family with a password. We wanted to write up a longer announcement where we describe the process in better detail. First, we would like to note that there will be NOTHING you have to purchase. We are just having people in our church family take the photos so there will be no sales pitch or pushy salesperson. There will not be prints of the photos offered but, if someone would like a hard copy of the directory, we can print one for free in the office. On Sunday, April 3rd, we will begin taking photos in our tech room (room 209) after worship from 10:45am-12:30pm. You do not need to sign up, you can just come during those times. There will be a list where you can confirm your contact information and a form to fill out if you are not on the list or if the information is incorrect. Please write your first and last name(s) on the white board that will be provided and take a photo with the white board, so we know which pictures go with the correct information. Be on the lookout for more dates to come take pictures and information on how you can access the directory. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Johanna at 996-7721 or johanna@downtownfirstumc.com. Thank you!

ONE THING-FOOD PANTRY

February is our church’s month to collect for the Mitchell Food Pantry, so we are combining it with our “One Thing.” They need CANNED peas, carrots, diced pineapple, and mandarin oranges. You can place them on the “One Thing” table in the gathering area. Thank you!

VALUES WORKSHOP

Please join the leadership of our church on February 19th for a Values Clarification Workshop beginning at 8:30am and concluding by 12:30pm, led by Rev. Rebecca Trefz.  This workshop is intended to help our church clarify and define the values that guide us in ministry.  As decisions are made about ministry and church direction, being clear on our values is vital.  If you can’t be present for the workshop, there will be a questionnaire available to hear the voices of more of our church family.

LOVE FEAST NEEDS

Love Feast is looking for some large left-over containers like whipped cream and half gallon tubs. You can bring the containers to church office. Thank you.

If your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light; but if it is not healthy, your body is full of darkness. Therefore, consider whether the light in you is not darkness. If then your whole body is full of light, with no part of it in darkness, it will be as full of light as when a lamp gives you light with its rays.”

THANK YOU!!!

2021 has been quite the year. There have been many challenges…but there have also been many positive things that have happened. Our church has continued to reach out in ministry in so many ways. Through our Mission Giving we have had an impact in many different parts of the world. Through our One Thing giving we have touched lives here in the Mitchell area through fun and creative ways. Your faithful giving to our church has ensured that all our staff and bills have been fully paid as ministry has been done in the name of Jesus Christ. Your giving of your time, energy, and ability has also ensured that the impact to the world through our church is broader than any of us can imagine. In the midst of everything else, there have also been a number of staff transitions that have taken place this year. Together we have made these changes relatively smoothly and the ministries of our church have been enhanced. There is a bright future for our church! Thank you for your efforts and desire to bring about the greater fulfillment of God’s Kingdom here on earth now!!!
