O God, you are my God, I seek you, my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory. Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you.

THE LORD’S PRAYER…X2

The question has been raised, why do we use two different versions of the Lord’s Prayer: one being the traditional version and the other being a more contemporary version. This is a great question. It goes back to last year when we did a sermon series focusing on the Lord’s Prayer. At the same time one of the Sunday School classes was also learning about the Lord’s Prayer. The question was asked regarding what certain words meant, mainly because they aren’t words that we use anymore. Then the question was asked if we could use a version of the Lord’s Prayer that used words more like we use today. So, a version of the Lord’s Prayer was found that uses more “contemporary” language, and we’ve been using that one too. Some people said that they prefer and still use the traditional version all the time. And that’s OK. We’ve also had people tell us that using the two versions of the Lord’s Prayer in worship makes them think more about what the words really mean and what they are praying for.  Using the Lord’s Prayer isn’t just about reciting memorized words, it’s really about a format for prayer that is given to help us connect with God more deeply.

Pastor Keith’s next sermon series, beginning February 2, will help us consider five compass points that can guide us in the journey that brings faith to life! Join us for worship…and the journey!

P: this life, before light.

L: Then he came, we thought, to do many things;

P: to our surprise, he called us, saying: “You are the salt of the

L: So he has called us: To be the light in this world;

P: to dispel the darkness of hate and injustice.

L. So he has called us, from every nation, culture, and language,

P: all purified by Jesus to be the light.

L: So he has called us, from every nation, culture, and language,

P: all gifted by the Holy Spirit, to be light of every kind.

L: Some of us are daylight, some candlelight, some flickering fire,

P: all gifted by the Holy Spirit, and all beloved as we are.

L: He is come, through us, to do many things;

P: To our joy, he has called us, saying: “Let your light shine

     before others.”

L: It is a bright, joyful sunrise,

LUKE & ACTS IN 2025

Beginning in January, Bishop Lanette is encouraging United Methodist across the Dakotas-Minnesota Area to join in a journey through Luke and Acts, reading one chapter each week. This shared experience will foster a sense of encouragement, challenge, and community as we delve into the seamless story of Jesus’ life, ministry, death, resurrection, and the Spirit’s work through the early church. Comprised of 52 chapters together, they provide a natural framework for intentional spiritual practice throughout the year. This week’s reading is Luke chapter 2.
