MUISC PREFERENCE SURVEY

As we look to the fall, the plan is to go back to two Sunday morning worship services. The early service will be at 9:17am and the second service will be at 11am. Sunday School will begin at 9:30am. We are still considering which service, contemporary or traditional, will go in which time slot. We are also hoping to start a second Praise Team to add to our variety of musicians helping lead worship. You can help our leadership out as we consider these decisions by filling out a brief survey. Click here to take the survey.

You must be available for Sunday morning services and other services as needed (funerals, weddings etc.). Salary will depend on your skills, but we are willing to train the right individual. For more information and to download the application, click here. There are also paper copies of the applications in the church office.

PEACE WITH JUSTICE SUNDAY

This Sunday, June 12th, is Peace with Justice Sunday. On Peace with Justice Sunday, we partner with other United Methodist congregations in a special offering to support advocacy around the world. Together we strengthen God’s creation with ministries that challenge structures of inequality. We empower people and communities through systemic change in ways that bring true and lasting peace with justice. We have envelopes at both worship center entrances for you to place your donation or put it in the offering and mark it “Peace with Justice.”

A NEW BEGINNING!

Church Growth is an important value for any church body, and the best way for a church to grow is through multiplication.  Downtown Mitchell First UMC has done this through the birth of Fusion.  Now we can do it again through the launching of a Hispanic Church that will meet in our Chapel on Sunday afternoons beginning on Sunday, April 24.  Rev. Herman Perez is the pastor of this new faith community, and he has successfully launched Hispanic Churches in Sioux Falls and Plankinton.  We hope to build some connections between our church and this new church in the coming months. Right now, we simply ask for you to pray for this new congregation as they seek to connect people with God.

MISSION KITS

Calling all folks interested in putting Mission Kits together. We will be meeting on April 26th, Tuesday, at 1 pm in the Mission room downstairs to put health kits together. Donations of hand towels, washcloths, regular size bar of soap (no Ivory) and bandages accepted. Hope to see you then.

UMCOR SUNDAY

Today, March 27th, is UMCOR Sunday where we partner with other UMC congregations in a special offering to support the United Methodist Committee on Relief, an organization that acts on our behalf when there is a crisis. We have designated enveolops at both worship center entrances to place your offering. Thank you!

ONE THING-CAMP SCHOLARSHIP DONATIONS

For March’s “One Thing” we are collecting money to help send our children and youth to summer camp. There is a designated collection box in the gathering area where you can put your donations. You can also put it in the offering or give/mail it to the office. All we ask is that you please specify it is for March's "One Thing." We have also just added tents that you can tape to the forest backdrop when you donate. You can write your name and the donation amount on the tent if you would like or just hang a blank one up. For details on each camp and to register, visit dakcamps.org/camps-and-events.

EASTER LILLIES

We are selling Easter Lilies in memory or honor of someone for $15 each this year. If you are interested in purchasing, please contact Johanna at the church office: 605-996-7721 or johanna@downtownfirstumc.com. Please include who it is in memory/honor of and who it is given by. Orders should be turned in to the office by Thursday, April 6th.

BUTTER BRAID SALES

The youth are selling Butter Braids as a fundraiser now through March 30th and will be delivered on April 13th. To order, you can contact any of the youth or go to the online store by clicking here.

NEW CHURCH DIRECTORY

It is that time again! We are starting the process of putting together a new church directory, although this time it will look a little different. The directory will be online and will be available to access by anyone in our church family with a password. We wanted to write up a longer announcement where we describe the process in better detail. First, we would like to note that there will be NOTHING you have to purchase. We are just having people in our church family take the photos so there will be no sales pitch or pushy salesperson. There will not be prints of the photos offered but, if someone would like a hard copy of the directory, we can print one for free in the office. On Sunday, April 3rd, we will begin taking photos in our tech room (room 209) after worship from 10:45am-12:30pm. You do not need to sign up, you can just come during those times. There will be a list where you can confirm your contact information and a form to fill out if you are not on the list or if the information is incorrect. Please write your first and last name(s) on the white board that will be provided and take a photo with the white board, so we know which pictures go with the correct information. Be on the lookout for more dates to come take pictures and information on how you can access the directory. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Johanna at 996-7721 or johanna@downtownfirstumc.com. Thank you!

DAKOTA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP

Our church’s finance team is offering two DWU scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each for the 2022-2023 school year. These are available to all ages, not just high school seniors, and will be paid to the DWU Business Office in January 2023 after we receive confirmation that they successfully completed the fall semester. You can download the application by clicking here. Please either email it to Denise Hoffman at Denise.Hoffman@k12.sd.us or bring it in to the church office.

OAK GROVE LUTHERAN SCHOOL CONCERT

Save the date! On Wednesday, March 30th at 7pm the Oak Grove Lutheran High School Choir will be giving a concert in our worship center. It will include both secular and sacred music. Anyone is welcome to attend.

WEDNESDAY EVENING LENTEN STUDY GROUPS

Our Wednesday Evening Lenten Study Groups will not meet this week so that all can attend the Fargo Oak Grove High School Choir Concert in our Sanctuary at 7:00 pm.  Hope to see you all there.

WEDNESDAY YOUTH GROUP

The youth will meet at 5:30pm this Wednesday to join in a meal with the Lutheran Youth Choir here at the church.

COMMUNION ELEMENTS AVAILABLE

Next Sunday, April 3rd, will be a communion Sunday. There are communion elements available to take at both worship center entrances for those who might be worshipping at home that Sunday. We will also have them available to pick up by the front entrance throughout this coming week. Feel free to stop by anytime during office hours to pick them up.

PRAYER STATIONS

The youth are putting together Prayer Stations for Lent and will be available to use all through the season. The stations are in the upstairs classroom nearest the back stairway on the north side. There will also be special prayer stations for younger children in the center of the room. To have the most meaningful experience, we ask that all children be accompanied by adults.
