VERSE FOR REFLECTION: 1 John 4:11-12

Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is perfected in us.

The parade is on Saturday, October 12th, at 10am. This is a great way to show our support for DWU and our community by having a presence at this event.

DO UNTO OTHERS T-SHIRTS

There will be a table in the gathering area with a sign-up for the Do Unto Others t-shirts. There must be a minimum of 24 ordered so right now we are seeing if there is enough interest to place another order. Please write your name and size down and if you have any questions please reach out to Pastor Keith or Tonya.

DO UNTO OTHERS

Pastor Keith began a new sermon series entitled “Do Unto Others.” This series and title come from Luke 6:31 where Jesus is teaching his followers about loving their enemies. In this series we’ll be focusing on five key components for loving our enemies, or how to treat one another in a very polarized world. The five components are Kindness, Respect, Love, Humility, and Compassion. As we come to a very divisive season in our nation, that of a national election, may we focus on what Jesus has to say about how we should treat one another, even those we may disagree with. Our call is to …” Do Unto Others…”! Please join us this week as Pastor will be talking about Love.

THE LORD’S PRAYER…X2

Why do we use two different versions of the Lord’s Prayer? One being the traditional version and one a more contemporary version. Great question. It goes back to two years ago when we did a sermon series focusing on the Lord’s Prayer. At the same time one of the Sunday School classes was learning about the Lord’s Prayer. The class was wondering what certain words meant, mainly because they are words that we don’t normally say. Then they asked if we could use a version with words more like what we use today. So, we found a version with more “contemporary” language.

Some people say that they prefer and still use the traditional version all the time, and that is OK. Some people have said that using the two versions makes them think more about what the words really mean and what they are praying for. Using the Lord’s Prayer isn’t just about reciting memorized words, it’s really about a format for prayer that is given to us to help connect with God more deeply.

PASTOR’S REFLECTION

Dear church family, I know that you are used to receiving a Pastor’s Reflection with the Friday Update that comes out from the church office each week. I want you to know because of the class I am taking at DWU called Practical Church Leadership, I have to “let go” of some elements of my usual ministry to make room for class assignments.

I am also letting go of the Tuesday morning “Faith Break” that I’ve been doing for several years. Again, I need to create some space to get my assignments done. This class will continue until July 2025. My hope is that through my participation in the Certificate Program through DWU and the Dakotas Conference, I will be a better pastor for this church. Thank you for your prayers.
