MISSION OF THE MONTH

Heifer International

Heifer International is on a mission to end hunger and poverty in a sustainable way by supporting and investing alongside local farmers and their communities.

SEPTEMBER “ONE THING”

Our September “One Thing” is individual packaged snacks for DWU’s student life. Suggestions would be individual wrapped crackers,

fruit snacks, cookies, candy bars, etc. 

TWO SPECIAL GUESTS-TWO SPECIAL SUNDAYS

October is always a special month with Fall truly kicking in, pumpkin spice everything,etc…at Downtown FUMC we are going to have two special guests on two special Sundays to make the month start out in an incredible way.

On Sunday, October 1st, which is World Communion Sunday, Rev. Anthony Purcell, the newly installed Campus Pastor at DWU will be with us to meet our church family and bring the morning message and also assist in serving communion.

On Sunday, October 8th, Bishop Lanette Plambeck, Bishop of the Dakotas Conference, will be with us in morning worship to meet our church family and bring the message. You won’t want to miss this opportunity to meet, worship with, and hear her preach.

BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENING

The Health Ministry team will have a blood pressure screening on Sunday, September 24th prior to the 10AM worship service. They will be located by the office doors.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT YOUTH GROUP MEALS

We need donations for the Wednesday night meals for our youth and their leaders. There is a sign-up sheet located by the Connection Center Desk, please consider helping with this mission. If you have any questions, please let Becky or Cindy know.

SERVICE FOR SUICIDE HEALING AND HOPE

Did you know that death by suicide was the 10th leading cause of death in South Dakota in 2021, and the leading cause of death among 10-29 year olds. (SD Dept. of Health, Sept. 2022) As part of September being Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, we are hosting a Service for Suicide Healing and Hope. This service will take place on Sunday, September 24th at 4PM in our worship center. Our goal is to provide a service in which we allow people to remember those who died, and to provide healing and hope for those who live. All are welcome.

ADULT BIBLE STUDY

Natalie Piehl will once again have an adult bible study based on the book title Immerse: Beginnings beginning Sunday September 17th. She will offer a study on Sunday mornings at 9:00 AM and/or Wednesday evenings at 7:00 PM. Books are for sale for $14.00 each. Please let Natalie know if you are interested or if you have any questions.

ADULT CLASS

Dave Mitchell’s adult class will start meeting again on September 17th at 9AM. The topic for the first classes will be the prophetic books of the Old Testament, especially the minor prophets. All are invited to participate.

DQ FUNDRAISER FOR LOVE FEAST

Mark your calendars, Tuesday, September 26th 5PM-8PM will be the next fundraiser for Love Feast at Dairy Queen. 10% of all sales will be directly donated.

COUNTY FAIR STAMPS & COBORN’S RECEIPTS

We are still collecting County Fair Stamps and Coborn receipts for August, September, and October. Please place them in the marked drawers at the top of the lower-level stair
