MISSION OF THE MONTH

 Haiti Alive

In short, things in Haiti are a mess. In LaGonave, the availability and cost of food are the biggest issues. School feedings have been cut to 3 days a week. The elderly and Women’s Village are also in need. Funds are needed to continue the ministry of Haiti Alive which our church has supported over the years. Thank you for your continued support and interest in Haiti Alive.

JUNE “ONE THING”

Our June “One Thing” is thin Crayola markers for Love Feast backpack give away. Last year they gave away 800 backpacks to children in Mitchell and the surrounding area.

INFORMATION MEETING TO BE HELD

The General Conference of the larger UMC was held last month and this coming week the Annual Conference for the Dakotas UMC will be held in Bismark, ND. Our church family is invited to an information meeting on Sunday, June 23, immediately following worship. This gathering will be held in the worship center of our facility and will focus on sharing information on legislation that was approved, and decisions made at both the General Conference and Annual Conference.

DISCOVERING YOUR SPIRITUAL GIFTS

An important way to grow as a Christian is to understand how God has gifted you. The Bible tells us that we each have a Spiritual Gift or Gifts. A couple of weeks ago Pastor Keith invited our church family to pick up a Spiritual Gifts inventory, complete it, and return it to the church and we’ll score it and let you know what the inventory says about you and how you are gifted. If you haven’t filled one out yet, a copy of the inventory is available at the welcome desk in the Gathering Area. We also have a youth version of the Spiritual Gifts inventory, and we invite all our youth to complete one as well. Thank you for your interest and seeking to grow in Christ.

SUMMER SERMON SERIES

We all have our favorite Bible verses, the one’s we tend to naturally gravitate toward. The same is true with pastors. At times pastors get in a rut of preaching from their favorite Bible Stories and passages. In part, this is why the lectionary (assigned Bible verses for each day and Sunday of the year) was developed and used in some church traditions. It forces pastors into different parts of the Bible.

During part of the summer months, Pastor Keith will be sharing a sermon series called “Overlooked Passages” in which we will focus on the lesser-known lectionary passages or stories from the Bible. Join us this June.

DID YOU KNOW…

…that utilities (gas, electricity, water, sewer, and garbage) represent almost 10% of our budget expenditures. That means for every dollar you give to the church for general giving, almost 10 cents is used to heat, cool, keep the lights on, etc. Thank you for your faithful giving!
